と一言にいっても、英語ではたくさん表現がある。
discuss, argue, consider.. etc.
「Chomsky(1998)が・・・と議論している。」
「Prince (1997)が・・・と主張している。」
論文を書いているとこんな表現がたくさん頭の中に出てくる。
英語ではどのような時にどような動詞を用いればいいのか・・・。
授業で習ったこととOEDを並べてみた。
discuss: talk about (something) with a person or people
方向性が決まっていない
consider: think carefully about (something), typically before making a decision
discussとちょっと似てるけど、でもそれより広い
argue: give reasons or cite evidence in support of an idea, action or theory, typically with the aim of persuading others to share one's view
「この方向で論じていきます」
自分の主張を言う時に用いる。
claim: state or assert that something is the case, typically without providing evidence or proof
論じるポイントがいくつかあって、「これぞ主張です！」というもの。
She claims that... （彼女の論の要約、ポイントがくる。）
insist: demand something forcefully, not accepting refusal
誰かは、こう言っているが、自分はそれには反対します、という時に使う。
